About argentina.ie

argentina.ie is an independent site about two things: where to buy yerba mate in Ireland without overpaying, and how to get set up in Ireland if you have come from Argentina.

It exists because both questions were answered badly. Yerba prices vary enormously between Irish shops with no easy way to compare them, and practical information for Argentinians moving here is scattered across Facebook groups and screenshots someone forwarded two years ago.

How we check prices

Every price in the comparison table was read off a live product page by hand and carries a visible checked on date. There is no automated feed and no estimation.

  • We compare price per kilo, not price per bag, because bag sizes differ and per-bag prices hide the real cost.
  • We show shipping next to the price, with each shop's free-shipping threshold, because on a €10 bag of yerba delivery often matters more than the yerba.
  • We do not fill gaps with guesses. Two Irish shops that rank well for "mate" turned out to stock no Argentinian brands at all — so we say that, rather than padding the table with unrelated products.
  • Prices go stale. Amazon third-party listings in particular move week to week. The date next to each price is there so you can judge for yourself.

How we make money

Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. That is what pays for the site.

It never changes the ranking. The comparison table sorts on price. At the time of writing, several shops that pay us nothing rank above ones that could, because they are cheaper. If that ever stops being true, the table is broken and we want to know. The full details are on theaffiliate disclosure page.

What we will not do

  • Publish a price we have not verified ourselves.
  • Rank a shop higher because it pays a commission.
  • State a visa or tax requirement without linking the official source.

Guides are informational, not advice

Our guides on visas, PPS numbers, banking and renting are written to be genuinely useful, but they are not legal, immigration or financial advice. Requirements change, sometimes without notice. Every guide links the official source — the Embassy, the Department of Social Protection, the RTB — and you should check it before you act.

Tell us when we are wrong

This is the part that keeps the site honest. If a price has changed, a shop has altered its shipping, a product has been out of stock for weeks, or a process we describe no longer matches reality, please tell us and we will re-check it.

We would also like to hear from Irish shops that stock yerba we have missed — if it is on a shelf somewhere on this island, it belongs in the table.
